Lambo Kit Car

If you like sports cars, then I am sure that you have dreamed of owning a Lamborghini at some time or another. But they are so expensive, aren't they? A solution might be to get yourself a Lambo kit car instead. You could either assemble the Lambo kit car yourself, have it assembled or buy a pre-assembled model.

Lamborghini, or Lambo in some countries, is the popular name of the Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A, which is now 99% owned by Audi. Lamborghini was founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini, a manufacturing magnate. The company operates in Sant'Agata Bolognese and employs about 550 people, who made a profit of $18 million in 2006.

Lamborghini revolutionised the standard layout for sports car design with its mid-engined Miura sports coupe in 1966. Despite such successes, Lamborghini went through hard times in the following 20 years and was owned by Chrysler and an Indonesian company, before being sold to Audi, which is itself owned by Volkswagen.

The Lamborghini companies return to profits has been slow but steady although the current global financial crisis does not auger well for supercar makers, predicts Lamborghini's CEO Stephen Winkelmann.

Lamborghini now produces about 3,000 of its four models a year at its one original plant. These four models are the V10 Gallardo coupe and roadster and the flagship V12 Murcielago coupe and roadster. Lamborghini also produce limited edition variants of these four main models from time to time such as the Reventon and the Superleggera.

The names of all Lamborghini cars are taken from famous fighting bulls. A fighting bull is also the logo of the company and the symbol on their cars' badges. Murcielago (in Catalan Spanish, the official Spanish, 'c' is a 'th', but here it is often pronounced as an 's'), survived 28 sword thrusts in a bullfight in Cordoba, Spain in 1879 and was spared his life by the matador, which is a very rare honour. He went on to sire a long line of fighting bulls for the Miura fighting bull stables.

Lamborghini or Lambo kit cars are widely available throughout the world from many private manufacturers. Usually, the Lambo kit car is built around a demolished sports car, called a donor car, such as the Boxster, the Fiero or the MR2. This ensures that the Lambo kit car is not severely under-powered. The body work is normally fibreglass and comes in about seven sections including all the interior fixtures and fittings.

For the true Lambo kit car enthusiast, there is the Association of Handcrafted Automobiles which holds an annual fair (it is already over 30 years old). Often there are over 200 vehicles on display which are meant to represent the very best in kit, replica and handcrafted custom cars from all around the world. A trophy is awarded to the manufacturer who is deemed to have given the best kit car product support, quality and service during the previous year.

Needless to say, there will be many a Lambo kit car on display at the show for the kit car enthusiast to admire.
